TSSC 306 - Papaya Collage

I bought Papaya Collage because I really like the frame image in it.  The rest of the elements are cool, but most have never seen ink.  Somehow, they seemed just right for the Designer Series Paper (DSP) that I picked for this week's TSSC design team sample.

I was leery about just mixing these elements as a "collage," but I figured I'd give it a try. Those of you who know me or read my blog regularly probably have figured out that I'm not overly comfortable with random. In fact, it took me a long time to even stamp off the edge of the cardstock! I laugh about it now, but that really was a big step for me. So these types of designs are a stretch.

I don't think it's too bad for my first attempt. For some reason, it's a lot cuter in person.  Possibly because with the Four Frames image on the front popped up (love Stampin' Dimensionals!), you can see the Bermuda Bay flowers better.  They kind of get lost in 2-D.

Supplies:

Cardstock: Crushed Curry, Bermuda Bay, Basic Gray, Whisper White

Ink: Crushed Curry, Bermuda Bay, Basic Gray, Smoky Slate

Stamps: Papaya Collage, Four Frames, Teeny Tiny Wishes, French Foliage (for the splotches - would have used the ones from the My Paper Pumpkin Welcome Kit, but a friend was borrowing that set)

Techno Stamper Sketch Challenge 259 and Late Night Stampers 219 (Four Frames)

Good Morning!  I combined challenges again this week.  Last week when I saw the challenges, nothing came to mind and I just had to start creating to come up with something.  Well, this week was just the opposite.  As soon as I saw the challenges, an idea popped into my head right away.  The only thing I had to do was decide on the colors.  Isn't that funny how my reaction to seeing the challenges was so totally opposite?  Just goes to show - you can't control the creative process.

So, here's my card:

 

Edit 4/16/13 - You may notice this card is slightly different than the one on the challenge sites.  Something about it just didn't seem quite right.  I looked at the sketch again and moved the Decorative Label punched element to the left. 

 

Did you notice I used one of the returning colors?  I paired Blushing Bride, which will be available in the new catalog, with Pool Party.  The 2010 In Color Designer Series Paper Patterns Pack, which I used on this card, is available on the Clearance Rack now.  I used a card from the Note Card and Envelope pack  to match the shape of the TSSC sketch.

The sentiment is from Teeny Tiny Wishes and was stamped inside a stamp from Four Frames, which was punched out with the Decorative Label Punch.  The vertical strip was punched with the Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border Punch.  The flowers were punched with one of the punches in the Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack.  I used my stylus (that came with my Simply Scored) and my Stampin' Pierce Mat to give the flowers some dimension*.  Because they weren't flat, I used glue dots to adhere them.  I put a Basic Pearl in the center of each.

The Late Night Stamper Challenge this week is Paired with a Punch.  This week we are creating samples using stamp sets that have a matching punch!  What a fun one this is going to be.

*See more flowers that I've given dimension using a stylus here (gave texture and dimension all over) and here (scroll down in post to second card - gave texture to center, which raised the outside petals).  The flowers on today's card were done in a similar manner.  I pressed my stylus in a small circle around the center of the flower, which raised the outside edges.

LNS Challenge (3-D Carrot Treat Holder)

This week's Late Night Stampers Challenge is to make a 3-D object.  My submission is a carrot treat holder made with the Petal Cone Die.

While the idea of a challenge is to create a new item so that you "challenge" yourself to try something different, this project was actually made a little while ago.  I knew 3-D items would be an upcoming theme (a benefit of being a guest designer) so I went ahead and created it early so my club could make it in time for Easter.  Some of the stampers (me included) are planning to make these as table favors for Easter dinner.

To make, use the Big Shot to cut one Petal Cone in Tangerine Tango.  Run it through the Big Shot in the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder.  I actually ran it through twice so that the polka dots were still sticking up when I folded down the round flap at the top, but this is not necessary if you don't mind the dots at the top being debossed (dipping in rather than poking up).  Assemble the Petal Cone die cut (fold over and use Sticky Strip to adhere flap to back).  Fold front semi-circle down and tack with adhesive.  Leave back semi-circle up.  Cut a Lucky Limeade scallop semi-circle from the Petal Cone die.  Run it through the Big Shot with the Vine Street Embossing Folder to make it look leafy like a carrot top.  Attach the scallop sem-circle to the Petal Cone carrot as shown.

Stamp the polka dot image from Four Frames onto Whisper White cardstock.  Punch out with the Decorative Label Punch.  Use the Happy Easter stamp from Teeny Tiny Wishes to add the sentiment and then add three Basic Rhinestones under it.  Attach punched piece to carrot.  Add desired treat and you're done.

Flower Garden Embossing Folder with Four Frames

This card is similar to one I posted back in May.  To show you how versatile this layout can be, I used different ribbon and different stamps (Four Frames and Teeny Tiny Wishes).  The ribbon has retired, but you could use 5/8" satin ribbon in its place.



More Paisley Prints

Here's another card made with Paisley Prints dsp.  It's very different from the other Paisly Prints cards I posted.  That's the great thing about Designer Series Paper.  You can get a lot of variety from one pack and you can get a cute card very quickly (guess that's two great things).  This card is perfect for when you just need a simple card to send a quick note.

The background is made with the square lattice embossing folder.

And, just for kicks, here are some of my prototypes from making the Mother's Day card that I posted previously.  I'd like to say that every time I make a card it comes out just how I envisioned it on the first try.  But, I'd be lying.  Truth is, sometimes I make several versions, tweaking it a little each time until I come up with the perfect card.  I like all of the other cards in this picture.  They just weren't what I was trying to accomplish.  On the bright side:  I now have four nice cards ready to be used or donated.

Note that the bottom card has the modern label punch, but no sentiment.  Often if I don't have a specific use in mind for a card, I don't add the sentiment.  Then when I need a card in a hurry I can stamp the sentiment I need from Teeny Tiny Wishes, punch it out with the Word Window punch and add it to the card.

Paisley Prints and Four Frames

This Paisley Prints Designer Series Paper is so pretty!  And I love the Four Frames stamp set!  I made a Mother's Day card and four cards that coordinate with it.  I was thinking the four cards would make a great Mother's Day gift.

Here's a close-up of the Mother's Day card.  Lots of fancy details to make it special for a special person.

Here are two more notecards.  I like them a lot, but they didn't seem to match the others enough to include in a coordinating set.  I've included them in this post to give you a couple more ideas and so you can see another of the Four Frames.
