Why would I want that? 12 x 12 card stock

I use 12 x 12 cardstock for scrapbooking.  What else would I use for my 12 x 12 album?  But until recently, that was pretty much all I used my 12 x 12 cardstock for.  Oh!  And as a backup for when I ran out of 8 1/2 x 11.  But you know what?  12 x 12 is great to have on hand for several reasons:

*  If you put layers on your cards, you know how many little 1/2" strips you end up with.  But, if you use a 12 x 12 sheet, you can get 6 pieces of 4 x 5 1/4.  The bonus:  your leftover piece is 1 1/2" x 12.  A very useful size!

*  You use 12 x 12 sheets to make the following cards:  trifold shutter, matchbook card, pocket card and more

*  Make a 3 3/4 x 3 3/4 nine page mini accordion album

*  You get four 6 x 6 scrapbook pages for your 6 x 6 album.

*  Get two 6 x 6 cards.

*  Get eight (yes, EIGHT) 3 x 3 cards or self-sealing cards like we made at the preschool fundraiser class.

I'm sure there are more ideas, but these will get you started.

So, next time you're stocking up on cardstock, keep the 12 x 12 in mind.

St. Patrick's Day Card using Define Your Life

This card was CASEd from a very talented stamper named Donna Rogers, who is a member of Late Night Stampers.  You can see her original card here: http://gems4donna.blogspot.com/2010/02/st-pattys-day-swap.html   We will be making this card in my upcoming class on Thursday, March 4 at 10:00am and 7:00pm.  There's still time to register.

Recipe:  Sahara Sand, Natural Ivory, Handsome Hunter and Night of Navy Cardstock;  Night of Navy and Handsome Hunter Classic Ink; Define Your Life, Very Thankful and Itty Bitty Backgrounds Stamp Sets; Large Heart, Scallop Edge and Circle (1/2" and 3/4") Punches

In case you're wondering, the circles are punched from one of the Very Thankful stamps.  Itty Bitty Backgrounds was used to add some visual depth to the shamrock.

For those of you who haven't heard the term, CASE means Copy and Share Everything, which fits right in with the Stampin' Up Statement of the Heart.

Easter Suspension Card

This was the second card I did at Stamp Camp yesterday.  If you were there, you know how much fun we had and made lots of great projects.  If not, you won't want to miss the next one on Saturday, March 20th.

At stamp camp, I actually had another element on the card -- Happy Easter punched with the word window and layered on Bashful Blue cardstock punched with the modern label punch.  It was just above the flowers.  I don't have a picture of it right now.  If I get one, I'll replace this picture.  For now, enjoy it this way.

This is a suspension card.  The bunny in the center of the 1 1/4" punched hole will actually spin around (with help).  I used the Stampin' Up set Eggcoutrements, Certainly Celery satin ribbon and several punches.

Hope your upcoming week is a great one!  Thanks for visiting my blog.  Sue

Valentines

Wow!  I can't believe it's been so long since I posted.  I've been busy with life, which has a way of happening.

I thought I'd share the treats I made for my family.  I made them all cards, plus I made the girls treat bags and made my husband a Valentine box filled with what else -- kisses.  Both girls' bags had the same amount of candy to start with, but I forgot to take pictures before they were given and you can't expect kids to keep out of candy just so Mom can get a photo :)

We made a similar treat bag in the Preschool Fundraiser class I held recently.  The bag was the small size and the Top Note was turned the other way -- so it was narrower and taller.  I didn't get a picture of that either before I gave it away.  Guess I have to work on that.

All supplies are Stampin' Up except the initials on the bags (but I do have the Stampin' Up alphabets and use those, too -- this alphabet just seemed a little more "teenager-ish").

Hope you all had a Happy Valentine's Day.

Stampin' Up Chocolate Bunny card

This card (or a slightly tweaked version) is one of the cards we'll make at the March 4 class.  Contact me today to register.  The chocolate bunny looks so cool when embossed.  Sorry about the poor photography.  I tried photographing the card in three different places and this is the best I could get.  The colors are much richer in person.  The embossing isn't a whole lot better, though.  I tried to use classic ink, even though I knew better and that's why only half of it's embossed :)  I've ordered Craft ink for the class so your bunnies will all look shiny and chocolately and yummy.

Upcoming Stampin' Up Class Schedule

Scroll down to the next post for Preschool Fundraiser details.  Register and pre-pay for any of these classes by 2/14 and 10% of the class fee will be donated to the preschool.

Wed., Feb. 10, 10:00am and 6:30pm.  Preschool Fundraiser.  Make several projects that can be used for Valentine's Day (or modify to use for another occasion).  These are quick, simple projects that are good for beginning stampers or as a parent/child outing.  Experienced stampers are welcome, too.  Location:  St. Andrews UMC  Cost:  $6 ($2 of class fee will be donated to the SAUMC preschool).  RSVP by Tuesday (2/9) evening.

Sat., Feb. 20, noon to 4:00pm.  EASTER STAMP CAMP:  Come make 8 projects, designed by 5 different demonstrators, for $25.  Deadline for registering is approaching, so sign up today!  This is a fun afternoon of stamping and socializing with others who enjoy papercrafting.  Plus, there will be door prizes and munchies.  Food, Free Stuff and Stamping -- what could be better?  Location:  Contact me for location.

Thursday, March 4, 10:00am (at St. Andrews) and 7:00pm (location TBA, but in Garner).  We'll make two Easter cards, plus one more card.  Cost:  $7 (free for stamp club members; ask me for info.).

VERY THANKFUL STAMP-A-STACK:  Make 8 cards using each of the 4 stamps in the Very Thankful set.  This cute set is very versatile for creating all kinds of thank yous (or other types of cards if you ink up with a marker so you can leave off the words).  Plus, SU will donate $2 to the Ronald McDonald House Charities for each set purchased.  Cost:  $28 with stamp set (catalog price $14.95); $15 w/out stamps.  Wednesday, March 17.  I will offer a morning and an evening class.  I love the variety in this set, love that the purchase of it helps RMcD House and really want to do this class.  So if you want to take this class, but need a different date, let me know.  (Note:  This class description was changed from the original entry.)  Please RSVP so that I can get your stamps ordered in time to be here for the class.

This schedule will be updated as more classes are added, so be sure to check back.

Thanks for looking.  Hope you can make it to one or more of these events.  Sue

Stampin' Up Preschool Fundraiser

Stampin’ Up Preschool Fundraiser

The preschool at St. Andrews UMC is having a Stampin’ Up fundraiser.  Check out the following ways to add to what they raise:

1) CLASS:   Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at 10:00am and 6:30pm (following dinner).  Come make several projects which can be used for Valentine’s Day or modified for a different occasion.  This class is great for beginning stampers or as a parent/child outing.  Experienced stampers will also enjoy it.  Cost: $6.00 ($2.00 from each class fee will be donated to the preschool).  Location:  St. Andrews UMC  Please RSVP (see below) by Tuesday evening.

2) ORDER:   From now until Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010, place an order for Stampin’ Up products and 10% of your order will be donated to the preschool.  This is a great time to stock up on supplies because Sale-a-bration is in full swing.  For every $50 order you can choose a free item from the Sale-a-bration catalog (value up to $15.95).  Orders of all sizes are appreciated and add to the preschool total.

(Make your purchase go further.  In addition to helping the preschool, purchase I {Heart} Hearts and SU! will donate $2 to Red Cross’ Haiti Relief and Development Fund; purchase Very Thankful and SU! will donate $2 to the Ronald McDonald House Charities.)

You can get a catalog from me or browse online.  However, orders must be placed through me (not online) for the preschool to receive credit.  Also, when browsing online, pay attention to the preferred price (not the regular price).

Sale-a-bration Brochure (free items you can order with every $50 purchase):  http://204.228.150.61/catalogs/20091231/SAB_10_US.pdf

3) HOST A WORKSHOP, PARTY OR STAMPIN’ BUNKO:  Book your event now and $5 will be donated to the preschool.  Plus, you can earn free hostess benefits.  During Sale-a-bration, your event can qualify for extra free items.

(What is Stampin' Bunko?  It's a fun night out where you play 2 rounds of Bunko, which is a fast paced, easy dice game.  Prizes are awarded (in the form of gift certificates so you can choose what you want) ranging from $5 to $50 and everybody wins!  After the Bunko, make a card using Stampin' Up products.  You need 12 people to play.  Each person chips in $12.50, which all goes towards prize money.  The hostess earns a minimum of $15 in free merchandise, plus a hostess stamp set.  Think you might like to play Stampin' Bunko, but don't really want to be a hostess?  Just let me know.  If I get enough interest, I'll host it and still make the donation to the preschool.)

(What's the difference between a workshop and a party?  They are basically the same thing.  The hostess invites guests to come see a stamping demonstration -- I'll show how to make a couple of projects -- and then everyone will do a make-and-take.  Some people like to call it a workshop because everyone learns and does stamping.  Other people like to call it a party because it's lots of fun.  Either way, everyone has a great time and the hostess earns free stuff based on the orders placed at her event.)

4) REGISTER:  Register and pay for any other class on my calendar and 10% of the class fee will be donated to the preschool.  (Calendar will be posted soon.)

BONUS:  I will double the donation for the first two Alphabet or Define Your Life Sets that are ordered (that’s 20% of the purchase price).

THANK YOU DRAWING:  As a thank you for your support, I will be giving away several prizes. Earn 1 ticket for attending the class on Wed. and for each class that you register (and pre-pay) for; earn 1 ticket for placing an order (earn an additional ticket for every $25 in your order); earn 3 tickets for hosting a workshop (or other event).

This fundraiser and the prize drawing are only available through Sue Root, Independent Stampin' Up Demonstrator.  Please contact me at 773-9233 or stampin_sue@nc.rr.com with questions, to RSVP, to place an order or to schedule your workshop.

Thanks, Sue

Butterfly Hinge Card

Here's how I finished off the butterfly hinge card.  You can see the original a few posts back.  Funny thing, my club ended up split on how they wanted to make their card.  Half did it the original way (the bottom had a tone on tone background stamped with Sprinkles); the other half did it like this with the Sweet Pea DSP.

You can see on the right how the card opens.  I still haven't put the message inside, but I think the one on the card below is perfect.  It's from Hope Happens, which is full of great sayings.

This is a quick card made using the Beautiful Butterflies die and sponged around the edges.  The butterfly body is made by tying hemp twine around it.  Like I said, I love the saying.

Thanks for stopping by.  Have a wonderful weekend.  Sue

P.S.  Sorry I didn't get this posted yesterday.  It was just a crazy day :)

Butterflies with Embossing Folder

Hi friends.  I'm back with another butterfly card.  The one uses the Beautiful Wings butterfly embosslit and the Elegant Bouquet embossing folder.  Hope you enjoy!  Sue

P.S.  Check back tomorrow afternoon to see how I finished off the butterfly hinge card that I'm doing with my stamp club tomorrow morning.
